Micah Jones, a former self-described JFK Democrat-turned-Republican, is hoping to flip Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District. Jones believes that the district’s independent voters, as well as some Democrats, will see the benefits of having a Republican representative in Congress.

Background

Before running for Congress, Jones served in the military in the 82nd Airborne Division and later became an attorney. He began to have doubts about the Democratic Party’s direction while in law school, particularly with regards to support for law enforcement and what he saw as a shift towards more progressive ideologies.

Jones believes that Massachusetts is missing out on federal funding due to its lack of Republican representation in Congress. He hopes to work with the administration to secure funding for the state, while also pushing back when necessary.

Campaign

Jones is running unopposed in the state’s September 1 primaries and will likely advance to the general election on November 3. He acknowledges that the ‘R’ next to his name may be challenging in the heavily Democratic state, but believes that his center-right stance on fiscal issues and his ability to work across the aisle will appeal to independent voters.
