Endurance athlete Seth Wilmoth recently undertook an extraordinary challenge, running 13 marathon-distance routes in 13 consecutive days across California. This impressive feat, known as Project Gold Rush | 13×13, aimed to raise funds for the California State Parks Foundation, highlighting the importance of preserving the state’s natural landscapes.
Skechers played a crucial role in this endeavor, sponsoring Wilmoth and providing him with performance apparel and their Aero Series running shoes. The challenge spanned over 340 miles, covering diverse terrains from coastal roads to mountain elevations, and tested the limits of both the athlete and the gear.

The project saw Wilmoth running through all 13 of California’s Level III ecoregions, experiencing dramatic climate and terrain changes. Despite the grueling schedule, Wilmoth completed the final run in Los Angeles on May 2, where Skechers hosted a celebratory community event. Attendees had the opportunity to try on Skechers Aero running shoes and take home branded T-shirts, turning the finish line into a celebration of community and shared purpose.
Skechers Aero Series Performance
Throughout the challenge, Wilmoth relied on two models of Skechers Aero Series running shoes. He started with the Aero Razor, a lighter shoe ideal for the initial marathons, and later switched to the Aero Burst for added support and cushioning. Despite the demanding conditions, Wilmoth reported minimal discomfort, noting only a single blister over the entire journey.
In addition to footwear, Skechers Performance apparel proved essential in handling the varied weather conditions, from desert heat to snow. Key pieces included the Skechers GO DRI Circuit Tank and the GO RUN Vapor Tee, which helped Wilmoth maintain comfort and performance.
Fundraising for a Cause
While the physical challenge was significant, Wilmoth’s primary goal was to raise $26,200 for the California State Parks Foundation. The campaign has so far raised over $9,000, with donations still being accepted. Wilmoth hopes his efforts inspire others to push their limits and embrace challenges, emphasizing that everyone is more capable than they might think.
