Two individuals, who were masked, reached the top of the Empire State Building’s spire in New York City on Wednesday afternoon and are now in custody, according to the New York Police Department.
The couple appeared to get engaged at the top of the 1,454-foot landmark, unfurling a banner that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
Police officers climbed up the spire and met the two just before 1 p.m. The antenna at the top of the Empire State Building transmits broadcast signals for virtually all of New York’s local TV and radio stations.
