Jake Whisenant, a 30-year-old elite rock climber, died in a climbing accident in California’s Sierra Nevada. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office reported that Whisenant died of blunt force trauma injuries sustained from a fall.
Whisenant’s Climbing Achievements
Whisenant had established himself in Yosemite’s climbing community through a series of impressive feats on El Capitan, one of the world’s most challenging rock-climbing destinations. In May, Whisenant teamed up with fellow climber Noah Fox to climb El Capitan’s Nose route twice in one day, completing the feat in 14 hours and 38 minutes.
Whisenant’s friend, Bailee Moore, remembered him as her ‘lifelong friend and confidant.’ Moore stated that Whisenant’s family is ‘absolutely devastated’ by the news but finds solace in the fact that he died doing what he loved in the beautiful Sierra Nevada.
