Nearly 13 years before Elena Moore was found dead near a middle school in Lexington, South Carolina, her husband, Brannon Slice, was stripped of his law enforcement certification following an internal affairs investigation.
Investigation Details
The investigative report, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, reveals the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department initiated the probe in late 2013 against then-narcotics detective Brannon Slice.
Slice, who reported Moore missing to the Lexington Police Department on June 12, 2026, was found to have attended a social gathering, a pool party, with individuals tied to a narcotics case he had previously worked.
According to the report, Slice’s girlfriend was offered ‘some Molly’ at the party, and Slice had also collected information during the narcotics case from his girlfriend, who was renting a room from someone affiliated with the network.
The probe ultimately yielded two sustained findings against Slice, including ‘poor judgment’ for attending the party and ‘insubordination’ for making false statements to supervisors.
Slice resigned from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department before the internal affairs investigation concluded and was subsequently charged with misconduct and stripped of his law enforcement certification.
Current Investigation
Moore’s death remains under active investigation by agents with the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division. Her autopsy offered little clarity, with no evidence of trauma found.
