El Paso Public Libraries Launch Book Drive for Día de los Niños

El Paso Public Libraries is launching a community book drive in observance of National Library Week. The campaign aims to gather books that will be redistributed to local children as part of the library system’s upcoming Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros celebrations.

National Library Week is a yearly observance that highlights the role libraries play in education, literacy and community life. The local drive is intended to expand book access for families who may not have the resources to purchase new titles, while also encouraging early reading habits among young residents.

Organizers are seeking donations suitable for children and young readers, including picture books, early readers, and middle-grade titles. Donated books should be in good condition so they can be enjoyed by their new owners. Volunteers will sort and prepare the contributions for distribution at neighborhood events tied to Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros.

Community members can drop off donations at participating El Paso Public Libraries branches during regular hours. Those who want more information about accepted items, drop-off locations, or volunteering can contact their nearest branch or check the library system’s official communication channels for details.

Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros is a celebration that links children’s cultural heritage with literacy, often featuring storytelling, performances and book giveaways. The library system’s book drive is designed to connect that celebration with a lasting resource: books children can take home and keep.

Local leaders and library staff encourage residents to take part in the drive as a direct way to support childhood literacy and strengthen the community. Contributions of books and time will help ensure more children leave the events with books of their own and a renewed interest in reading.
