El Paso Community College nursing student Daniel “Danny” Dominguez is set to represent the United States at the Mr. Universe competition in Panama on November 9. The 22‑year‑old, who is also a certified personal trainer, will join 45 other contestants from five continents, carrying the hopes of his hometown and the broader borderland.
From the classroom to the stage
Dominguez, who is studying nursing, balances his academic responsibilities with a demanding fitness regimen. He lost more than 60 pounds through disciplined training and nutrition, a transformation he says fuels his desire to promote healthier lifestyles, especially for medically vulnerable populations. “Sometimes we trip and fall, but I keep going,” he explained. “Having this opportunity in a male pageant is a door opening for me.”
Modeling milestones and community roots
Before stepping onto the international stage, Dominguez earned titles such as El Paso Top Model and Audi of El Paso Male Model of the Year. He also represented the United States as Mr. Teen Universe two years ago, taking home the crown. When not modeling or competing, he works as a home health care provider, delivering care to local families while reminding himself of his El Paso roots.
Message for the next generation
Dominguez hopes his journey will inspire young people in the region to pursue their dreams, no matter how unconventional. “I want children to know they can reach for their dreams, just as I have,” he said. He emphasizes the importance of family support, noting that friends, sponsors and his own faith have been instrumental in his progress.
Representing El Paso on a global stage
“I’m representing the United States, but I carry El Paso on my shoulders,” Dominguez affirmed. He plans to use the platform to shine a light on his hometown, highlighting the resilience and ambition of the borderland community. The competition, scheduled for November 9, will be streamed internationally, giving viewers a chance to see an El Paso native compete among the world’s most fit and charismatic men.
Local support and future plans
Local businesses and community leaders have rallied behind Dominguez, providing sponsorships and encouragement. He remains committed to his nursing studies and hopes to continue serving the community as a health professional after his pageant run. “I won’t forget where I came from,” he promised, adding that his ultimate goal is to combine his medical knowledge with his passion for fitness to help others lead healthier lives.
As the El Paso community watches his preparation, many see Dominguez’s story as a testament to hard work, faith, and the power of family support—values that resonate deeply across the borderland.
