The Hospital of Providence Children’s Hospital in El Paso, Texas, has revealed two new pediatric play areas designed to help young patients unwind and decompress during their hospital stay. The play areas are part of a collaboration with the Spirit of Children, a non-profit program created by Spirit Halloween.
Play Areas for Different Age Groups
The new play areas cater to three different age groups: infants, toddlers, and teenagers. They are equipped with toys, video games, and colorful spaces for young patients to explore, aiming to take their minds off treatment and ease anxiety as they recover.
Victoria Gonzalez, CEO of Providence Children’s Hospital, emphasized the importance of these play areas in supporting the emotional and mental well-being of their young patients. The original plan was to create just one play area, but the non-profit decided to expand the project to include two separate areas.
The Spirit of Children has been instrumental in raising funds for child life departments and hospitals across the U.S. Since 2007, the organization has raised over $145 million for more than 160 hospitals, including Providence Children’s Hospital.
