El Cafecito, a popular coffee shop in Springfield, has filed plans with the city to open a new location on Historic Commercial Street. The new location will be on the ground floor of the Sankofa, a $13.5 million affordable housing complex that opened earlier in 2026.
New Location Details
The plans call for infill of more than 2,400 square feet, and work includes drywall, bathroom fit-outs, and painting and tiling walls, as well as finishing floors, installing kitchen equipment, and more. The new location will take on suites D and E of the ground floor of the Sankofa property, joining other businesses like the SBC Community Bike Shop and a retail incubator run by the Multicultural Business Association.
El Cafecito co-owner Cristhian Valdez declined to comment on the plans for the new restaurant when contacted earlier this month. The company and co-owner Shanie Valdez did not respond to multiple messages requesting comment for this story.
