The water level for the San Antonio Pool of the Edwards Aquifer has risen to 651.7 feet as of Monday, according to the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA). This is the highest level since April 2022.
Water Restrictions
Some San Antonio residents are wondering if the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) will rescind the current Stage 3 watering rules. The EAA has its own guidelines for restrictions on pumping water out of the aquifer, which differ from SAWS’ guidelines.
SAWS has implemented drought water restrictions for its customers since 2022 and has maintained Stage 3 watering rules since June 2024. To terminate Stage 3 water rules, the aquifer must stay above 640 feet for 15 consecutive days.
The Edwards Aquifer only represents half of the city’s available drinking water. SAWS has a diversified water supply that includes the Aquifer storage and recovery facility, a direct recycled water system, and an inland desalination plant.
