Edmond’s LibertyFest, a Fourth of July tradition that’s been around for more than five decades, kicked off last week. This year’s celebration is particularly special as it coincides with America’s 250th birthday. The festivities will culminate in a grand parade and fireworks show on Saturday.
Parade Details
The parade will start at 9:00 a.m. in downtown Edmond. It will feature a flyover, honor the Veteran of the Year, and include three bands from Edmond, as well as pageant winners. The streets will begin to close at 7:30 a.m., and attendees are advised to arrive early and stay hydrated.
Fireworks Show
The fireworks show will take place at 9:30 p.m. at the University of Central Oklahoma. The event organizers have implemented various safety measures, including more motor show inspections and the use of safer products. A safety map is available on the LibertyFest website, indicating restricted zones and parking areas.
LibertyFest is a 100% volunteer-run organization, and its success is made possible by the community’s support and donations. The celebration aims to promote pride in America and the freedoms that its citizens enjoy. As Eric Tapia and Clay May Rose, representatives of LibertyFest, emphasized, the event is an opportunity for people to come together, have fun, and get to know their neighbors.
