Edgewood Works to Secure Fire Services

Edgewood is working to finalize a new plan to maintain fire and EMS services after Santa Fe County rejected its initial funding proposal. The agreement between the town and the county hit a roadblock last week when Santa Fe County said Edgewood’s plan was inconsistent with the deal they had agreed upon.

Commissioner Stephen Murillo addressed accusations of requesting changes to the ordinance without informing the county, saying, “I did not control the agenda. I did not direct the clerk, I did not stop communications. What I did do was raise legitimate concerns that were acknowledged at the time, push for legal compliance, protect the town from unnecessary risk and request that the commissioners be fully informed.”

Edgewood officials said they are finalizing the new ordinance and plan, which will be presented for a vote at the next meeting on June 16.
