A beloved East Salem church site is set to continue its long tradition of community service in a meaningful new way — through affordable housing and a food pantry, according to Salem Reporter.
Rather than fading from the neighborhood, the site will be repurposed to address two of the most pressing needs facing Salem residents: a place to call home and reliable access to food. The project represents a commitment to keeping the spirit of service alive at a location that has long been a cornerstone of the community.
The transition reflects a growing trend of faith-based properties finding new life as hubs of practical, hands-on community support — ensuring that the care and outreach once offered within their walls continues to reach neighbors in need for years to come.
Also lifting spirits in Salem this week, Oregon National Guard soldiers from the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team were honored at a local demobilization ceremony following their deployment to the Horn of Africa. The event, covered by DVIDS, celebrated the soldiers’ safe return and their service as part of Task Force Bataan — a proud moment for Salem and the wider Oregon military community.
