Dylan Bradley’s Puppetry Brings Life to ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

Dylan Bradley, inspired by their experience in High Tide Theatrical’s 2025 production of ‘Hand To God,’ has brought a new level of creativity to the stage with their puppetry in ‘Little Shop of Horrors.’ The production, opening a five-week run at The Lightroom Lounge, features Bradley’s unique designs that breathe life into the character of Audrey II, a mysterious plant with an unusual appetite.

Innovative Puppetry in Springfield

Bradley, who serves as the stage manager and is involved in props, costuming, and makeup design, was inspired by productions like ‘War Horse’ and ‘The Lion King.’ They aimed to create a more dynamic and lively version of Audrey II, incorporating a ‘dog-like’ energy into the puppets. The production features multiple puppets, starting with smaller versions and progressing to larger floor puppets as the plant grows.

Bradley’s work is supported by a talented team of puppeteers, including Elian Mackey, Miles Stamper, Courtney Stanford, Landan Stocker, Ashtin Umstattd, and Lyndsey Williams. The voices of Audrey II are provided by Lavelle Johnston and Kyler Sherman-Wilkins, as the show is double-cast to ensure a dynamic performance.

Community Collaboration and Technical Challenges

The production marks the first time Ethan Hoover, High Tide’s new technical director, has led a show from start to finish. Hoover, who has a background in communications and theater, has been instrumental in addressing the technical challenges faced by High Tide. The company has launched a fundraising campaign to improve its technical capabilities, aiming to acquire better equipment and enhance future productions.

Despite working with limited resources, the team has managed to create a visually stunning and technically demanding production. The dedication of the cast and crew, along with Bradley’s innovative puppetry, highlights the vibrant community spirit and artistic talent present in Springfield.
