Durango residents will see the Community Recreation Center shut down for its yearly maintenance and cleaning, a schedule announced by the City of Durango. The gymnasium will be closed to the public from Oct. 11 through Oct. 17 and is set to reopen on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m.
The center’s aquatics area will close a day earlier, beginning Saturday, Oct. 10, and will remain unavailable through Sunday, Oct. 18. It is slated to reopen to swimmers on Monday, Oct. 19 at 5:45 a.m.
In addition to the gym and pool, no fitness classes will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 10. The racquetball courts and the indoor track will also be closed on that day, giving staff time to complete cleaning and equipment checks.
City officials note that the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office will stay open during the closure, operating Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents with questions or comments are encouraged to use the city’s “Contact Us” form or to sign up for the “Notify Me” service to receive future news flashes.
Recreation Center Manager John Robinette provided the contact details for inquiries: phone (970) 375‑7323 and email via the city’s website.
What’s next? The gymnasium will welcome patrons again on Oct. 18 at 10 a.m., while the aquatics area will resume operations on Oct. 19 at 5:45 a.m. Residents can plan their workouts, swim sessions and racquetball games around these dates, and the Parks and Recreation office will remain available for assistance during regular business hours.
