A midday crash on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County sent a driver to the hospital and left a massive mess of sand blocking southbound lanes on Monday. The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. just north of Bruce B Downs Boulevard.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 33-year-old Tampa man was driving a dump truck southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road and flipped over, spilling its entire cargo of sand across the highway and creating an obstruction that blocked portions of the interstate.
The driver sustained minor injuries in the single-vehicle wreck and was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released any further details regarding what caused the driver to lose control or how long the lane closures are expected to last while crews clear the roadway.
