Greenville Technical College’s new Center for Welding and Automation Excellence will receive welding equipment kits thanks to a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. The center, scheduled to open in the fall at the college’s Brashier Campus in Simpsonville, aims to expand training opportunities to meet the growing demand for welding technicians across South Carolina and the Southeast.
Supporting Local Workforce Development
Terrance Shearn, welding department head at Greenville Technical College, expressed gratitude for the grant, stating it helps remove financial barriers and ensures students have the necessary tools for hands-on training. The welding kits will be used for both coursework and lab-based training.
Linda Hannon, director of government and community relations at Duke Energy, emphasized the company’s commitment to building stronger communities and expanding opportunities for the next generation. By investing in the center, Duke Energy Foundation is creating pathways to good-paying careers, strengthening the local workforce, and supporting long-term economic growth.
