Downtown Texarkana to Host Historic Trolley Tour and Little Doors of Hope on Sept. 11

Texarkana, Texas – On Friday, September 11, Main Street Texarkana will bring the city’s historic street‑car era back to life with a special trolley tour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event, called Downtown LIVE!, is designed to showcase the downtown’s rich heritage while fostering community connection.

Historic trolley ride through downtown

The trolley will depart from the Main Street Texarkana office at the corner of North State Line Avenue and East Broad Street. Riders will travel past a string of beloved landmarks, including the Museum of Regional History, Patterson Place, the Ace of Clubs House, the Arkansas Municipal Auditorium, the Concho Railhouse, the 1923 Banana Club, and the new Main Street offices in the Landmark Building. “We’re excited to have the trolley back downtown for the evening,” said Main Street Texarkana Executive Director Ina McDowell. “Visitors can hop on to take a tour of historic downtown with stops at historic buildings, restaurants, shops and stop in to see Main Street’s new space.”

Open‑house tours and special offers

Several historic sites will open their doors for free tours. The Arkansas Municipal Auditorium, Patterson Place, and the Museum of Regional History will each host open‑house tours throughout the evening. The Ace of Clubs House will offer two guided tours at half price, giving participants a deeper look at the home’s unique architecture and storied past.

Local businesses stay open late

Downtown’s restaurants, pubs, and boutiques will remain open later than usual to accommodate visitors. Participating businesses include Southern Grace Baby Boutique, That Vintage Vibe, GoodLuxe, and The Dressmaker, providing a mix of shopping, dining, and socializing options for families and tourists alike.

Little Doors of Hope launch

The evening will also mark the debut of Communities Unlimited’s Little Doors of Hope initiative. The project combines public art with practical resources: small doors installed throughout downtown open to QR‑coded information about local services, from food assistance to counseling. “We chose the tiny doors because we were thinking about things that have brought our community together over the years,” explained DeAnna O’Malley, area director of field operations at Communities Unlimited. “When we came across funding from Bridging the Gaps that encouraged community education and outreach, it all just came together, and Tiny Doors of Hope was born.”

Supporting historic preservation and economic growth

Main Street Texarkana’s mission centers on economic development through historic preservation, adaptive reuse, education, and community involvement. By highlighting the city’s architectural gems and encouraging local commerce, the organization hopes to strengthen downtown’s role as a vibrant gathering place for families, faith‑based groups, and entrepreneurs.
