Downey police shot and killed an allegedly armed man after a shooting left two others dead Saturday morning, authorities said.
Officers with the Downey Police Department responded to the 11800 block of Downey Avenue after someone reported hearing shots just before 8 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the police shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man and woman who had been shot; both died at the scene, officials said. At some point, another man, who police say was armed, approached the officers, prompting the police shooting, the LASD said.
No officers were hurt, according to the sheriff’s department. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the LASD’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
