Dos Pueblos Falls Short in CIF Semifinal After Extra Innings Battle

In a thrilling CIF-Southern Section Division 3 semifinal, Dos Pueblos High School’s softball team faced a tough defeat against Riverside Prep, concluding their season with a 4-2 loss in extra innings. The game, held in Goleta, California, saw the Chargers’ freshman standout Emily Morici hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, pushing the match into extra innings.

Extra Innings Drama

The Chargers initially took the lead with a two-out RBI double from senior Kacey Hurley, scoring fellow senior Anastasia Brunner. However, Riverside Prep responded with two runs in the sixth inning. Morici’s clutch home run in the seventh tied the game at 2-2, showcasing her talent as a freshman pitcher and hitter.

In the top of the ninth inning, Riverside Prep’s America Barajas and Alicia Cazares hit back-to-back home runs, securing the victory for the Silver Knights. Despite the loss, Morici’s performance was commendable, with nine strikeouts in a complete game effort. Her counterpart, Lila Morris of Riverside Prep, also impressed with 15 strikeouts, including striking out the side in the ninth to seal the win.
