Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies took swift action Saturday after employees at Dog Dayz Inn, a local doggy daycare in New Smyrna Beach, reported a hidden camera embedded in an electrical outlet inside a bathroom.

Search warrant executed

Deputies obtained a search warrant and entered the facility. During the search, they discovered the camera and seized the owner’s cell phone. The phone contained images of women in various stages of undress and, troublingly, files involving a child.

Owner admits to installing device

Donald Hemphill, 59, the proprietor of the daycare, admitted to installing the camera roughly four to five months ago. He was subsequently charged with ten counts of digital voyeurism and eleven counts of video voyeurism involving a child.

Detention and bond status

Hemphill is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail. The court set his bond at none, meaning he will remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
