The Los Angeles Dodgers’ catcher, Dalton Rushing, has been diagnosed with a partially torn right ulnar collateral ligament. This diagnosis was announced by the team’s manager, Dave Roberts, a day after Rushing was put on the injured list.
Rushing’s Injury and Rehab
Rushing will continue hitting during his rehab but won’t throw again for four to six weeks. The team had previously described his injury as an inflamed or strained elbow.
The Dodgers have recently acquired two new catchers, Hunter Feduccia and Ben Rortvedt, in trades with the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Mets, respectively. This move comes as the team’s top catcher, Will Smith, has been sidelined with a neck injury since early June.
Rortvedt started his first major league game of the season on Tuesday, going 0-for-2 as the Dodgers lost 5-1 to the Chicago Cubs. Rushing, 25, has been batting .253 with a .335 on-base percentage, a .475 slugging percentage, 12 homers, and 36 RBIs in 74 games this year.
