Documentary on motherhood screened at Teton County Library Sunday

Jackson, WY – On Sunday, Sept. 13, the Teton County Library will host a free screening of the 75‑minute documentary “No Country for Mothers.” The film, presented by It Takes a Valley and Wyoming Women’s Action Network, examines the culture wars surrounding American motherhood and argues that the nation has never built real support for raising children.

The event runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Ordway Auditorium, with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. Attendance is limited to the first 100 people who RSVP online.

Local relevance

Event organizers say the documentary reflects real challenges faced by families in Teton County, where high living costs and long childcare waitlists force many parents to choose between having a baby and keeping a job. “We see what young families in this valley are up against, and we are working to build the support network locally that they should have had all along,” said Alli Lane, executive director of It Takes a Valley.

Lane added that the film matters not only for mothers and families but also for employers, noting that “these are not private problems. They belong to all of us, and we get a lot further when we carry them together.”

Post‑film discussion

After the screening, a discussion will be facilitated by Teton County Commissioner Natalia Macker, who also serves on the board of Wyoming Women’s Action Network. Panelists include Cal Brackin, innovation and engagement manager for Teton County, and Lane, who specializes in perinatal resources with It Takes a Valley.

“For too long, issues women face around childcare, equal pay, healthcare and more have been seen as individual problems to solve, not a societal crisis,” Macker said in a press release. “This film explores that reality and galvanizes tangible action all of society, from government to businesses to families, should take now.”

Attendees are encouraged to share ideas for meaningful change and to help shape a stronger support system for families throughout Wyoming.

How to attend

Because space is limited, interested residents should RSVP online as soon as possible. The event is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity for community members, local officials, and business leaders to come together around a shared concern for the well‑being of families in the valley.
