District 10 Candidates Weigh In
Three candidates, Theo Ellington, J.R. Eppler, and Dion-Jay Brookter, shared their plans for revitalizing the Third Street corridor. Theo Ellington, executive director of the Bayview Opera House, aims to jump-start a Community & Economic Development planning process, focusing on increasing housing and identifying anchor tenants along Third Street.
J.R. Eppler, a small business attorney, plans to work with Third Street stakeholders to build an actionable branding and development plan, paired with easy wins like cleaner T stops and more frequent street cleaning. Dion-Jay Brookter, former CEO of Young Community Developers, will take a coordinated approach to support small businesses, strengthen the public realm, and grow the customer base.
The candidates’ plans come as the Islais Creek bridge is set to close for reconstruction, which may further isolate the neighborhood. The incoming supervisor will face the challenge of keeping businesses open and thriving despite these obstacles.
