Disney fans across the country can now stream the live‑action version of “Moana” starting September 8 on premium digital platforms. The film follows Moana (Catherine Laga’aia) as she answers the Ocean’s call and, alongside demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), sails beyond the reef of Motunui to restore prosperity to her people.
New bonus content highlights the island set
One of the standout bonus features lets viewers see how the production team constructed the island of Motunui on a working farm. Producer Hiram Garcia explained, “We needed a lot of acreage to build the village and to see it come to life. It’s an unbelievable landscape, one of our most amazing sets.” Production designer John Myhre added that building a tangible village helped the cast connect with the story’s heart of protecting a beautiful island.
Additional extras include a sing‑along version of the film, a behind‑the‑scenes look at how Catherine Laga’aia was cast as Moana, and commentary from the cast and crew about what the story means to their culture.
Physical media release
For collectors, Disney will also issue “Moana” on 4K Ultra HD, Blu‑Ray and DVD on October 6.
The Walt Disney Company, parent of the ABC station that reported the news, says the release aims to give families a chance to enjoy the adventure at home while offering deeper insight into the film’s production.
