A Discovery Channel team has located the wreckage of a Pan Am plane that crashed into the ocean off Puerto Rico in 1952, resulting in the deaths of 52 passengers. The plane, named the Clipper Endeavor, had taken off from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was bound for New York when it lost both right-side engines and crashed into the ocean minutes later.
Discovery of the Wreckage
The general location of the crash was known, but the exact location of the wreckage at the bottom of the ocean wasn’t. Last month, a Discovery Channel team used an autonomous underwater drone to locate the wreckage on the ocean floor, approximately 2,000 feet below the surface. The governor’s office in Puerto Rico has been informed, and Discovery Channel intends to cover the finding in an episode of Expedition Unknown in the fall.
