The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has balanced a $72.2 million budget for Fiscal Year 2026–27 after identifying approximately $1 million in reduced costs and operational efficiencies.
Efforts to Reduce Costs
Interim Sheriff Ty Rupert said the effort reflects a focus on financial stewardship as the office faces rising costs. The reductions followed a review of budget line items to identify more cost-effective ways to operate.
The sheriff’s office says one initiative includes paying certain vendors within 10 days of receiving an invoice, with vendors offering 1 to 10% price reductions in return. Additional savings came from delaying or reducing lower-priority expenses and adjusting internal processes and spending on staffing, equipment, and technology.
