Flood recovery efforts are underway at Parkside East Apartments in Des Moines after severe flooding submerged parts of the complex, leaving behind extensive damage and a long road to recovery. Nearly 400 residents have been displaced, with many suffering significant losses, particularly those on the first floor.
Recovery Efforts
Crews are working to tear out drywall, repair flooring, and remove debris from the apartments. It is expected to take at least a month before residents on the second and third floors can return, while first-floor residents face an even longer wait. The American Red Cross is providing shelter, food, and safety to nearly 80 displaced residents at Hoyt Middle School.
Conlin Properties, which owns the apartments, is working to rehome as many residents as possible in other properties. Donations to support the affected families can be made through the American Red Cross website or through central Iowa-based nonprofit IMPACT Community Action Partnership.
