Denver Police gave an update on an incident where an officer shot and injured a suspect, Wilson Guerra Bravo, 26, near 51st Avenue and Washington Street on July 5. Guerra Bravo had repeatedly harassed residents near the address, which was the former residence of someone he knew.

According to police, there were seven 911 calls about Guerra Bravo at the address from June 27 to July 5. Officers had given him a warning during one of those encounters and told him not to return. Despite this, Guerra Bravo came back to the residence multiple times, prompting the residents to call the police several times.
On July 5, Guerra Bravo was at the residence again, and the residents called police for the seventh time. He had a 12-inch knife and, when ordered to drop it, ran away. Officer body camera footage shows Guerra Bravo running away, stopping, and then running toward the officer, who told him to drop the knife again.
The officer then fired six rounds, and Guerra Bravo fell to the ground. He has been charged with attempted murder of a peace officer, a class 2 felony. The officer who shot Guerra Bravo has been with the department since 2024 and is currently on a non-line assignment.
