Denise Richards recently appeared on a podcast to discuss her relationship with her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, and how she has influenced her daughters to have their own conversations with him. Richards and Sheen were married from 2002 until their divorce in 2006 and share two daughters, Sami and Lola.
Parental Rights and Co-Parenting
Richards expressed her desire for her daughters to have a relationship with their father, despite the challenges they faced during their parents’ divorce. She encouraged her daughters to ask their father questions and have open conversations with him, even if it meant discussing difficult topics.
Richards also discussed how she protected her daughters from the truth about their father’s struggles with addiction, not wanting to burden them with the responsibility of knowing. However, as they have grown older, she has encouraged them to develop their own relationships with their father.
Sami, the older daughter, has been described as someone who stands up to her father, and Richards believes this is something he needs. She also expressed admiration for Sami’s confidence and individuality, even if it means she sometimes speaks her mind without filtering herself.
In contrast, Lola is more outspoken about her faith and has a different personality than her sister. Richards acknowledged the differences between her daughters and how they have been influenced by their upbringing and relationships with their parents.
