Demolition has begun at St. Catherine’s Indian School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after a fire heavily damaged the building last week. The fire, which started at the former school, damaged areas such as the dormitories and the chapel. Anthony Allen Dault was taken into custody in connection with the fire, but the cause of the fire has not been officially determined.
According to city officials, the demolition is a critical step in allowing investigators from the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office and other agencies to safely access the site to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The sections of the remaining walls pose a significant safety hazard, and the Santa Fe Police Department has established a wide security perimeter around the site.
