District 1, which encompasses areas such as Berino, Vado, Mesquite, La Mesa, San Miguel, Mesilla, Downtown Las Cruces, Picacho Hills, and Fairacres, is currently represented by Commissioner Christopher Schaljo-Hernandez. Elected in 2022, Schaljo-Hernandez has decided not to seek re-election, opening the field for new leadership.
