Democrats Colin Allred and Pastor Frederick Haynes Projected to Win Dallas‑Area House Seats

Dallas voters appear set to keep two congressional districts under Democratic control after CBS News projected victories for former Rep. Colin Allred in the 33rd District and longtime Dallas pastor Frederick Douglass Haynes III in the 30th District. The projections, released Tuesday evening at 7:23 p.m. and 7:28 p.m. Central time, are based on early returns but have not yet been certified by the state.

Allred returns to Congress

Allred, who served Texas’ 32nd District from 2019 to 2025, previously sought a U.S. Senate seat in 2024, losing to Sen. Ted Cruz. After briefly entering the 2026 Senate race, he shifted to the newly drawn 33rd District, which now lies entirely within Dallas County following the 2025 redistricting plan. Allred defeated Rep. Julie Johnson in the Democratic primary runoff on May 26, earning 11,307 votes (53.92%) to Johnson’s 9,663 (46.08%).

He will succeed Rep. Marc Veasey, who retired after the redistricting removed his Fort Worth base from the district. Republican challenger Patrick Gillespie, who ran for the seat in 2022 and 2024, was unable to close the gap in the early count.

Pastor Haynes wins 30th District

In the 30th District, which includes southern Dallas County and a portion of Tarrant County, Haynes was projected to defeat Republican Everett Jackson. Haynes, senior pastor of Friendship‑West Baptist Church, will replace Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who left the House race to pursue a Senate nomination.

The campaign drew attention when the Dallas County Republican Party objected to the church’s use as a voting location, citing a potential conflict of interest. Jackson protested outside the church on Oct. 11, and video from an Oct. 25 service showed Haynes encouraging congregants to vote at the church and inviting candidates to the sanctuary.

Redistricting and next steps

Both races were contested under the new congressional map drawn by Texas lawmakers in 2025. While the projections signal Democratic continuity in these districts, the official canvass and certification by the Texas Secretary of State remain pending. Voters can monitor the evolving results on the state’s election‑results portal.

These outcomes illustrate the impact of recent redistricting on Dallas‑area representation and set the stage for the next Congress, where Allred and Haynes will join their Democratic colleagues in Washington.
