National political commentator Hasan Piker, a self‑described Marxist streamer, ignited criticism this week after describing White Americans as either “good” or “bad” in an interview with New York Magazine. Piker, who was born in New Jersey and now streams to a large online audience, said he sees himself as a “Westernized White guy” but distinguishes his own views from those of “bad” White people.
Piker’s remarks on White voter groups
During the interview, Piker claimed, “Wisconsin has the good kind of White folk. Not the libertarian streak of White folk. Like, Texas has the libertarian streak of White folk. Wisconsin is, like, German, Dutch, old trade unionists.” He added that Democrats have failed to reach these “good” White voters, but he remains optimistic that they can be “mobilized.”
Piker further suggested that “bad Whites” have been swayed by a “propaganda apparatus” that convinces them the Democratic Party does not care about their well‑being. He linked this shift to “Reagan neoliberalism” and a prolonged culture war, saying, “people got duped, where they’re like, ‘Yeah, maybe the Democrats aren’t really invested in our well‑being; maybe it is the Mexicans who need to be purged.’”
Democratic party response
Democratic strategist Doug Friednash told Fox News Digital that the party must unequivocally condemn Piker’s comments. “Dividing Americans into ‘good Whites’ and ‘bad Whites’ is racial profiling, plain and simple,” Friednash said. “If someone on the far right talked this way about Black, Latino or even Jewish Americans, Democrats would rightly condemn it and call it racist.” He warned that Piker’s close association with the Democratic Party could become a “recipe for Election Day disaster” as the party makes its final push ahead of the November midterms.
Friednash emphasized that the Democratic Party should distance itself from Piker’s brand of communism, stating, “The more he becomes associated with Democrats, the more working‑class and independent voters we drive away.” He called for party leaders to make clear that such rhetoric has no place within Democratic ranks.
Piker’s proposed policy approach
When asked how he might win over conservative voters, Piker suggested offering expansive social‑welfare benefits. He said, “My theory of change is I’m going to tell the racists they deserve housing, too. I’m going to tell them, ‘Look, you’re going to get healthcare, Medicare for All, single‑payer. And if you’re transphobic, you’re still going to get it. But trans people are going to get it too. Are you not going to vote for that?’”
Fox News Digital has reached out to Piker for comment but has not yet received a response.
