Springdale residents saw a new voter‑assistance resource roll out on Thursday when the Democratic Party of Arkansas launched a statewide voter‑protection hotline outside Elmdale Baptist Church. The initiative, aimed at helping anyone who encounters voting‑day problems, comes as early‑voting participation climbs sharply in the region.
Party leaders and candidates, including former state representative and political strategist Megan Godfrey, gathered at the church to announce the helpline. Godfrey highlighted the significance of the location, noting that Washington County’s turnout was “about 45% up from the last midterm election,” a surge she described as “high numbers in Washington County specifically.” The gathering underscored the party’s intent to capitalize on that momentum and to reach voters who are ready but may have questions about the voting process.
The hotline, reachable at 833‑DEM‑VOTE, is open to anyone regardless of party affiliation. Abby Bunch, the voter‑protection coordinator for the Democrats, explained that callers can verify registration status, confirm polling locations and hours, and receive guidance on completing provisional ballots if they are challenged. “If somebody has a question about they thought that they were registered to vote, the person on the other end of that line can check their registration status, can double check and verify what polling location they’re supposed to be at or what times that those polling locations are available,” Bunch said. She added that, so far, the hotline has not logged any incidents during early voting.
Early‑voting data released by the state shows the effort aligning with a broader trend of increased participation. At the close of polls on Saturday, nearly 31,000 voters in Benton County and almost 23,000 voters in Washington County had cast ballots, both figures surpassing the totals recorded in the 2022 midterm elections. Early voting continues across Arkansas throughout the week.
For Springdale voters, the new hotline offers a direct line of support should they encounter registration issues, intimidation, or other obstacles at the polls. Residents are encouraged to keep the number handy and to call for assistance during polling hours.
**What’s next:** The hotline will remain active through the remainder of the election season, providing ongoing assistance as voters head to the polls on Election Day.
