Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner ended his campaign in Maine following a rape allegation from a former partner. Platner, who has not been criminally charged, called the allegation ‘false’ in an 11-minute video announcing his exit from the race.
Reaction from Sen. John Fetterman
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., strongly criticized Platner, calling him ‘a dead man walking’ and saying ‘the trash took itself out tonight.’ Fetterman also questioned why Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, endorsed Platner despite his history of scandals, including a Nazi symbol tattoo and allegations of abuse from former girlfriends.
Fetterman said Platner’s legacy will be that of ‘the accused rapist that got pushed out of your election.’ He also called on Democrats who endorsed Platner to apologize to voters and donors.
