Defense attorney defends Patrick Clancy after Massachusetts mistrial in tragic case

In a recent interview with Fox News, defense lawyer Kevin Reddington strongly defended Patrick Clancy, the widower of Lindsay Clancy, following a deadlocked jury and mistrial in the high‑profile Massachusetts murder case.

Reddington rebuts online speculation

Reddington said he continues to hear unfounded claims that Mr. Clancy was involved in the deaths of his three children. He challenged skeptics to listen to the 911 call and then confront him directly, describing the ordeal as “horrific” for the family.

Evidence does not support a criminal charge

When asked whether there was “no way” Mr. Clancy could be responsible, the attorney reiterated that he has never asserted his client’s guilt and does not believe the evidence does so. He highlighted the defense’s focus on postpartum mental illness, noting that Lindsay Clancy exhibited severe symptoms consistent with postpartum psychosis.

Supportive husband, not neglectful

Reddington rejected accusations that Mr. Clancy was neglectful or failed to support his wife. He pointed out that Mr. Clancy took his wife to doctors, advocated on her behalf, and was present during her struggles with sleeplessness and other postpartum symptoms.

Remarriage is a personal right

The attorney also defended Mr. Clancy’s decision to remarry after the tragic loss, stating that he is “entitled to move on with his life” and that Lindsay Clancy herself understood this choice.

Prosecution’s planning theory challenged

Prosecutors have argued that Lindsay Clancy planned the killings by sending her husband on errands. Reddington countered that the theory is inconsistent with the evidence, citing Apple Maps searches highlighted during the trial. He asked why she would need to calculate a nine‑minute or three‑minute route to a CVS if she were planning a murder.

He further argued that if she had intended to kill the children, she could have done so while Mr. Clancy was downstairs working, making the planning narrative “ridiculous.”

Alternative explanation for the searches

According to Reddington, the Apple Maps searches were simply a mother trying to gauge when her husband would return home so she could attend to bath time and bedtime routines. He said the searches align with a woman overwhelmed by postpartum psychosis, not a calculated killer.

Refuting claims of fabricated auditory hallucinations

The defense also dismissed suggestions that Lindsay Clancy fabricated hearing a voice to bolster her psychosis defense. Reddington described her as an intelligent woman who was researching psychosis, medication side effects, and related topics online.

He concluded with a stark condemnation of those who wish harm upon the family, likening their rhetoric to historic witch hunts and stating that such individuals can “crawl back into their basements” and say what they want.

Next steps

The Massachusetts jury’s deadlock means prosecutors plan to retry the case. The defense is preparing new motions that could seek dismissal of the charges or a reduction in the murder counts before any retrial proceeds.
