A woman was rushed to a hospital where she later died after a diving emergency off the coast of Jupiter. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Ocean Rescue responded Saturday morning to the Jupiter Inlet for reports of an open water incident.
A source familiar with the incident told WPBF 25 News that the emergency occurred during a shark-diving charter. The victim sank to the bottom of the ocean before she was brought back to the surface, pulled onto the boat, and given CPR.
Investigation Underway
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation revealed the woman had an unknown problem while diving that caused her to panic. Officials say foul play is not suspected, and the case remains open pending an autopsy.
Experienced divers say incidents like this highlight the importance of preparation before entering the water. Daniel Lomas, a shark safety guide and underwater videographer, said every type of diving comes with its own risks.
Lomas stressed the importance of thoroughly inspecting equipment before every dive and evaluating a diver’s physical condition. He also emphasized the importance of proper training and adherence to safety procedures to prevent emergencies.
