Daytona Beach business owners are urging the city to restore two-way traffic on several beachside streets, saying the current one-way system confuses drivers and hurts business.
Proposal Details
The Beachside Redevelopment Board is recommending the city consider converting portions of Seabreeze Boulevard, Wild Olive Avenue, Hollywood Avenue, and Oleander Avenue back to two-way traffic. Lyle Trachtman, owner of Seabreeze Fine Jewelry, said drivers frequently become confused by the current traffic pattern.
Trachtman noted that many storefronts are currently only visible to traffic leaving the beachside, making it difficult for customers to find local shops. He believes that returning key business corridors to two-way traffic would make local shops easier to access and increase their visibility to drivers traveling both toward the beach and back to the mainland.
However, not every proposed change would be easy to implement. Daytona Beach City Commissioner Ken Strickland said converting Seabreeze Boulevard back to two-way traffic would require approval from the Florida Department of Transportation because it is a state road.
