Dan Lucy Concludes 37-Year Tenure as KOLR10 Sports Director

Dan Lucy, a respected figure in Springfield sports journalism, has concluded his 37-year career as the sports director at KOLR10. Lucy, who joined the station in December 1988, was informed that his contract would not be renewed as the station plans to eliminate the sports director position.

A Legacy of Storytelling

Lucy, a University of Missouri graduate, has been a cornerstone of local sports coverage, known for his even-handed approach and dedication to storytelling. He emphasized the importance of sharing the stories of every team and player, a philosophy he maintained until his final broadcast.

Throughout his career, Lucy covered a wide range of local sports, from high school events to Missouri State athletics. His tenure saw significant moments such as the 1999 Bears’ Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament run and the 2001 women’s NCAA Final Four season led by Jackie Stiles.

Lucy also became an advocate for prostate cancer screening following his own diagnosis and recovery, demonstrating his commitment to community health and awareness.

Looking Ahead

Although his time at KOLR10 has ended, Lucy remains optimistic about future opportunities in Springfield. He expressed interest in continuing to tell stories within the local sports scene, potentially collaborating with Hite Productions and Missouri State for ESPN Plus.
