The Dallas Mavericks have announced their plans to establish a new arena and entertainment district at the former Valley View Mall site in North Dallas. This location, approximately 10 miles north of downtown Dallas, was chosen over a potential site at the current City Hall location downtown.
The Valley View Mall, which was demolished in 2023, offers a 104-acre area for development. The Mavericks plan to create a vibrant mixed-use destination featuring a state-of-the-art arena, restaurants, entertainment options, public green spaces, and family-friendly experiences. The team emphasized that with thoughtful planning and community engagement, this project could serve as a significant economic catalyst for Dallas and its residents.
Currently, the Mavericks share the American Airlines Center with the NHL’s Dallas Stars. With the Mavericks’ lease set to expire in July 2031, franchise CEO Rick Welts has expressed the need for a final decision by this summer to ensure the new arena is ready for the 2031-32 season.
The American Airlines Center is located in the Victory Park neighborhood of downtown Dallas. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars are also considering their future location, with options including staying at their current site or moving to the suburbs.
