Dallas, Texas – Kewon White, the man convicted of capital murder in the 2020 killing of local rapper MO3, has formally filed a notice of appeal with the court. White’s attorneys argue that he could not afford the official trial transcript, which is now being provided to the appellate team.

MO3, whose legal name is Melvin Nobles, was shot 11 times on Interstate 35 in 2020. Prosecutors allege the murder was part of a contract‑killing scheme organized by fellow rapper Yella Beezy (Markies Conway).
What an appeal means
Shin clarified that filing an appeal does not guarantee a new trial. “An appeal is limited to everything that happened at trial,” she said. “It involves reviewing the trial transcript and all filed documents for any reversible error.” Illich added that while identifying an issue is often straightforward, finding a reversible error that could lead to a new trial or reduced sentence requires sophisticated legal analysis.
Timeline
The trial transcript is not expected until January. The appellate team will have 30 to 90 days to examine the record before moving the case forward, a process that could take 12 to 18 months before reaching the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Dallas.
