The Asian Film Festival of Dallas is marking a major milestone this week as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The festival, which runs from July 23-26 at the Angelika Film Center Dallas in Mockingbird Station, will feature 27 films representing seven countries and regions, including the United States, Philippines, China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
Festival Highlights
This year’s festival includes 19 feature films and eight short films presented in two shorts programs. The lineup features a mix of established filmmakers, emerging voices, and diverse stories from across Asia and the Asian diaspora. The festival will also include one world premiere, two North American premieres, and one U.S. premiere.
Special anniversary screenings include the cult classic “Ichi the Killer,” which marks the film’s 25th anniversary, and the acclaimed South Korean zombie thriller “Train to Busan,” which will serve as the festival’s closing-night film. Several screenings will include opportunities for audiences to engage directly with filmmakers, including Q&A sessions with the documentary “Year of the Cat” and “Diamond Diplomacy.”
Festival attendees can also take part in special events throughout the weekend, including an opening-night party on Thursday, a centerpiece reception following Saturday’s centerpiece screening, and a closing-night party on Sunday.
