A 10-year-old boy from Dallas is grateful to be alive after a close call at a California beach. Nathaniel Rai was on a family vacation when he was pulled into powerful waves and nearly drowned.
A Heroic Rescue
Lifeguard Ryder Williams, 16, sprang into action, rushing into the water to rescue Nathaniel. Williams said he saw Nathaniel lose his footing and radioed for help as he swam out to save him.
Nathaniel recalled the terrifying experience, saying, “I screamed for help… I think one more wave happened and I went unconscious. When I woke up, Ryder was taking me to shore… I was super thankful because I knew he was going to save my life.”
A Heartfelt Thank You
Nathaniel and his dad, Sumit Rai, recently spoke with Ryder to express their gratitude. The two families even had a video chat, discovering they have some common interests, including a love for UFC.
