As the pretrial hearing for singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Burke, continued in downtown Los Angeles, investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department took the stand to describe the evidence they found in a Tesla registered to Burke and a Hollywood Hills home he had rented.

Evidence Found in the Tesla

Chelsea Murillo, a criminalist with the LAPD, testified that she responded to the Hollywood tow yard where Rivas Hernandez’s body was found inside the black Tesla on September 9, 2025. Murillo noticed a strong odor coming from the car, which she said resembled the smell of a decomposing body based on her professional experience. She found multiple air fresheners inside the vehicle, including at least 11 in the center console, rear seats, and frunk area.

Murillo used a chemical reagent called phenolphthalein to confirm that red spots in the lower compartment of the rear trunk were indeed blood. She also conducted a chemical test called Bluestar to find invisible blood traces. The test revealed a bright blue luminescent glow, indicating the presence of blood.

Evidence Found in the Hollywood Hills Home

Lauren Wallace, Murillo’s colleague, testified about the evidence she found while examining the garage of the Hollywood Hills home rented by Burke. Wallace found black interlocking floor mats with apparent cuts that may have been made by a sharp object or instrument. Phenolphthalein testing confirmed that the mats had bloodstains, and Bluestar testing revealed a positive reaction consistent with the presence of blood.

Wallace also found a rowing machine and a Tesla charging plug with bloodstains. Crime scene investigators found trash bags and tarps inside the garage, which also tested positive for blood. A blue inflatable pool found in the garage reacted to Bluestar and showed luminescence, although there were no visible stains.
