The Custer County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado rescued a baby bear from the side of a highway after receiving reports of a dog on the road. However, upon arrival, they found a malnourished and dehydrated baby bear with an injured foot.
Rescue Efforts
The sheriff’s office coordinated with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to care for the bear before it was picked up by a CPW officer. The bear will now be taken to a facility near Del Norte for rehabilitation and veterinarian care.
According to officials, the baby bear will spend the winter in an artificial den and will be released back into the wilderness when it wakes up. This was the second call for a bear that the sheriff’s office received on Wednesday, with the other bear being herded out of town from Westcliffe.
