Fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution have much to anticipate as Season 19 kicks off on Paramount+. With only two episodes released so far, the excitement is building for what lies ahead, especially with filming for Season 20 already underway following an early renewal in March.
Season 19 Finale and Beyond
Showrunner Erica Messer has provided some insight into how the current season will set the stage for the next. According to Messer, the Season 19 finale will mark the end of certain story arcs, but the ongoing battle between good and evil remains central to the series. “We end this season with the idea that while one big case might be behind us, another is brewing and requires all hands on deck,” Messer explained.
The narrative between Seasons 19 and 20 will span a year, allowing the characters to solve the case introduced at the end of Season 19. This time jump mirrors the one seen in the Season 19 premiere, which featured serial killer Elias Voit, played by Zach Gilford, still incarcerated but now a household name due to podcasts about him.
New Threats Emerge
The Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) faces a new challenge in the form of a Sicarius copycat known as The Fan. Described as “their most formidable nemesis yet,” The Fan is precise, calculating, and relentlessly dangerous. This new UnSub will push the BAU to its limits, operating under the shadow of Elias Voit. The season description teases the question, “How far will The Fan go to prove his superiority over his idol?”
While viewers have caught glimpses of The Fan in the initial episodes, Messer revealed that the character will not be fully introduced until Episode 8. Until then, the BAU will continue to consult with Voit, building tension and anticipation for the eventual reveal.
As the season progresses, fans are encouraged to share their predictions about the Season 19 finale and what it might mean for the future of the series. Criminal Minds: Evolution airs Thursdays on Paramount+.
