Medina Independent School District is set to witness a historic moment as the Creek View Cougars step onto the varsity football field for the first time. Head coach Brant Bourquin, a veteran of Houston‑area high‑school coaching, will lead the fledgling squad through its inaugural season in District 14‑4A Division I.
Coaching experience meets new challenges
Bourquin brings twelve years of coaching experience, six of which were spent in Montgomery County and another six at The Woodlands High School. He said he looks forward to the competition in the district, noting that “wins won’t come easy.” The coach also acknowledged the steep learning curve for his players, many of whom have never experienced varsity‑level speed and physicality.
All‑underclassmen roster
Unlike most high‑school programs, the Cougars will field a varsity team without a single senior. The roster consists entirely of juniors and younger players, a fact that both challenges and motivates the group. “It’s going to be tough for the kids, of course. They’ve never seen the speed of play at the varsity level,” Bourquin said, adding, “I think we’re going to be ready.”
Players embrace the opportunity
Team members see the program’s infancy as an advantage. Isaiah Aguilar, a lineman who plays on both offense and defense, explained, “New coaches, new teammates. Some of us actually grew up together. Feels great to be the first team to walk on this field and take pride in this field.” Starting quarterback Demarcus Young echoed that sentiment, stating, “New kids on the block, so everyone is going to doubt us. Everybody’s going to think we’re soft. We’re looking to be the toughest team in the district.”
First home game scheduled
The Cougars’ first home contest will take place on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m., when they host Lytle High School. The game marks the official debut of Creek View football and will be the first opportunity for local fans to see the new program in action.
Building a foundation for the future
Despite their youth and lack of varsity experience, the Cougars are confident in their mindset. The team’s leadership emphasizes character, work ethic, and community support as the pillars of a successful program. As the season unfolds, the players hope to lay a solid foundation that future classes can build upon, establishing Creek View as a competitive presence in Texas high‑school football.
Local residents, parents, and alumni are encouraged to attend the opening game and support the team as it embarks on this historic journey. The district plans to promote the season through school communications and community outreach, aiming to foster a strong fan base from the outset.
