Ryan Flournoy, the Dallas Cowboys’ third receiver, recently sat down with NBC 5’s Pat Doney to discuss his expectations for the upcoming season. Flournoy expressed his gratitude for the journey he has been on, from being a fringe receiver to becoming a key contributor to the team.

Overcoming Adversity

Flournoy’s path to success was not easy. He played five seasons of college football between Central Missouri, Iowa Western Community College, and Southeast Missouri State. Despite being told by a coach in 9th grade that he was too small to play in the NFL, Flournoy persevered and trusted in God to guide him. He said, “I always wanted to play in the NFL. I always knew I would play in the NFL. And just not giving up on myself and honestly trusting in God. You know, I feel like he planted that seed.”

Flournoy’s hard work and determination paid off last season when he stepped up in a big way after CeeDee Lamb left a game against the Detroit Lions with a head injury. Flournoy finished the game with a career-high 115 yards, more than he had his entire rookie season. He said, “Really, I’m just staying ready, like I prepare like nobody else, like, I try to know everybody’s job, which I do, and knowing if somebody was to go down, I could fill in with no drop-off.”
