Cowboys’ George Pickens Reports to Minicamp

George Pickens, the Pro Bowl receiver, has joined the Dallas Cowboys for their mandatory minicamp. Pickens had skipped the voluntary portion of offseason workouts, following the advice of his agent, David Mulugheta.

Pickens’ Presence Expected

Pickens’ presence at the minicamp was expected once he signed the $27.3 million franchise tag, which made him subject to fines for missing the three-day minicamp or training camp. The 25-year-old receiver had waited two months before signing the one-year contract, which is worth about three times his earnings on his four-year rookie contract.

Pickens stated that his agent played a significant role in his decision to skip the voluntary workouts. “He’s in control,” Pickens said of Mulugheta. “He’s like your boss, so it’s no (issue of) trust or anything there. He controls what you do.”

Pickens expressed his desire to win, saying, “Personally, what’s important to me is winning. I want to bring a Super Bowl to a group of guys that’s never had that feeling. Everything else is what they control.” He also mentioned that he never questioned owner and general manager Jerry Jones about the decision not to negotiate a long-term deal.

Under the one-year tender of the franchise tag, the Cowboys and Pickens still have until mid-July to work out a longer contract. However, the team has made it clear that they are not considering pushing that deadline. Any multiyear deal will have to wait until next offseason.

Pickens thrived alongside CeeDee Lamb last season, finishing with career highs in catches, yards receiving, and touchdowns. He will be limited in his work on the field during the minicamp but is expected to be ready for training camp in late July.
